A Look at Lighting
As much as you’d like your day to start after the sun is up and end before it goes down, it rarely happens. So for those early mornings when your crew kicks off work before daylight, and those days that extend into the moonlight, Masonry is reviewing several types of lighting for small and large jobsite projects. From handheld to free-standing, these lighting sources will allow you to work as long as you need to complete your masonry missions.
Hands-Free UV Light Source
The Spectroline EK-3000 EagleEye UV-A/White Light LED Inspection Kit (patents pending) features the palm-sized, cool-running EagleEye inspection lamp. It is engineered with two ultra-high-intensity UV-A (365nm) LEDs and a three-LED white light assembly. An adjustable strap allows the lamp to be worn on a hard hat or directly on the head for hands-free operation. A built-in fan keeps the lamp cool to maintain optimum UV-A intensity during prolonged inspections. Powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, it provides up to 45 minutes of continuous inspection between charges.
Cordless Fluorescent Area Light
DeWALT’s 18V Cordless Fluorescent Area Light has built-in telescoping and 360° rotating hook that allows the unit to hang from two-inch materials and multiple locations. An over-molded lens cover provides increased durability on the jobsite, while the 13-watt fluorescent bulb provides bright area lighting. Other features include a twist-and-lock, tool-free lens cover that allows for quick and easy bulb change; a pre-heat circuit that helps eliminate blackening at the base of the bulb; the ability to run on the 18-volt battery (sold separately) system for an extended run time of up to 3.5 hours.
ULA 14.4-18 Halogen Flashlight
West Chester, Pa.
Metabo Corp.’s new halogen flashlight uses the company’s latest Li-Ion battery technology to provide up to 9.8 hours per charge. The compact flashlight features an ergonomic, easy-to-grip handle as well as a high-intensity, 4.4-watt halogen bulb for working in tight, dark spaces. It is compatible with all 14.4- and 18-volt Li-Power Compact, Li-Power Plus and Li-Power Extreme battery packs. It also features a swivel head that locks into six different positions, making it easy to see in constricted areas. A handy focusable light beam adjusts to illuminate the exact area being worked on.
SFL 18-A CPC Lithium Ion Flashlight
Hilti’s SFL 18-A CPCP Lithium Ion Flashlight provides cool white light for thousands of hours, with more than 4,000 hours of expected lifetime and drop resistance, made to do more on the jobsite. It is backed by Hilti’s Lifetime Service for two years and features Hilti CPC Cordless Power Care, which provides better performance. Developed by Hilti, CPC is a technical standard, which, for the first time, ensures that the outstanding characteristics of lithium-ion batteries can be used to full advantage, even under the most adverse jobsite conditions. The battery status indicator shows, at the touch of a button, how much energy is left in the battery.
Portable Area-Spot Light
The FoxFury Nomad is a 3,600-lumen dual action LED area light and spotlight. At 17 pounds and 33 inches, it can be carried through the worst terrains imaginable and still deploy in 20 seconds. An internal, rechargeable lithium ion battery provides 2.5 to nine hours of light. The Nomad offers three intensities and converts from an area light to spotlight by quickly detaching its diffuser lens. The telescope reaches up to eight feet tall, and the light head rotates 340° and is as bright as your car’s high beams. No cords or charging at the scene is needed. The Nomad is all-weather and impact resistant. It was designed to provide either area or spot lighting in 20 seconds.
