Making the Grade
Nineteen-year-old Bradley Scott of Chatsworth, Ga., is our Masonry Apprentice of the Month. Scott competed in the national masonry contest held in Kansas City, Mo., in conjunction with the SkillsUSA VICA National Leadership and Skills Conference.
Scott works for his Dad's business, Dwight Scott Masonry, and he's been doing that for a long time. Scott also is a graduate of Murray County High School where he participated in football and wrestling. Now, he spends much of his free time hunting.
Phillip Stafford, Scott's technical instructor, says, "Bradley got an early start. He's been working for his Dad since he was a small boy. Of course, he worked as a laborer for several years but, for the past year or so, he's worked as a mason for Dwight."
"I've had a number of good students in my eight years as an instructor," Stafford continues, "and Bradley was definitely one of my best."
When asked what his instructor added to his education in the masonry trade, Scott said, "Mr. Stafford was able to break down and explain the key points to success in masonry."
