CLEANING AND REMOVING STAINS ON OUTDOOR PAVERS

Cleaners and Stain Removers for Your Outdoor Pavers
When properly installed, concrete and stone pavers can transform outdoor living spaces into beautiful dreamscapes. From grand outdoor entertaining areas to driveways and walkways, paving stones provide unsurpassed design flexibility as well as strength and durability. And, as with anything, in order to keep your pavers looking great, you’ll want to clean them periodically. With regular use, outdoor surfaces such as pavers, brick and concrete can become soiled from everyday items such as dirt, food and grease. Regular cleaning to remove the dirt and debris will help you maintain the stones original beauty. This becomes much easier if the stone has been sealed previously with a protective sealant that is able to protect it against stains and provide enhanced weather resistance.
Cleaners for Outdoor Pavers
Outdoor pavers can become soiled through everyday use as well as through exposure to a variety of harsh elements – from plant debris and deicing salts to mold and mildew, and car oil to cooking grease. And, in all these specific cleaning situations, you will want to work with cleaning solutions that are safe to use on your paving stones’ surfaces. This is because, unlike regular, all-purpose cleaners that often contain ingredients that can degrade the surface and discolor or scratch the stone, cleaners designed for use on outdoor masonry surfaces have been developed specifically for use with their unique mineral compositions. For everyday cleaning, you will want to use an efficient and economical solution that effectively cleans but is still gentle enough to use around surrounding vegetation. A good choice would be a product like DuPont™ Paver Armor Pro® Daily Masonry Cleaner, which was developed specifically to effectively AND safely clean hardscapes surfaces.
Specialty Cleaners For Tough Stains
Additionally, there may be times when you will need to use specialty cleaners to remove tough stains that regular cleaners cannot. To remove stubborn stains or discoloration caused by efflorescence, you will want to use a cleaning solution that was specifically developed to work on that particular type of stain. For example, the removal of rust stains requires a cleaner that is acidic while oil-based stains may require a more alkaline-based formula. The DuPont™ Paver Armor Pro® line of cleaners is available in a variety of easy-to-select products that were developed to address most of your cleaning and stain removal needs. Products include:
Additional Cleaning Tips
Dirt and stains should be cleaned and removed as soon as possible. The longer they remain on the surface, the deeper they can penetrate your pavers, making them harder to remove. Additionally, when using a stain remover, it is always a good idea to apply a test application to an inconspicuous area. You may find that some stains require repeated applications to effectively clean. Lastly, if you are cleaning a sloped surface such as a driveway, it is best to start at the bottom and work up the slope. This way the cleaning fluids drain down the pavement, allowing the surface ahead of the cleaner-soaked areas to remain dry, allowing for better visibility of the dirt and stains yet to be removed.
